Gutberlet and Ipp: 29th International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Mining Machines Construction Vehicles and Construction Equipment – baumaBetween 19. and 25. April 2010 the latest technologies from the fields of open-cast mining, deep mining, tunnel construction, preparation and conveying technology, geology, geophysics, exploration and consulting were introduced to the international public of ”bauma 2010”. The fair was thus the international meeting point for the entire mining and construction industry above and below ground for the third time. Nienhaus, Hetzel and Hahn: bauma 2010 – developments in the field of extraction technologyThe mining supply industry was again represented at bauma 2010. Despite the economic crisis the branch is looking optimistically to the future and presented its latest developments. The article provides a survey of developments in face technologies, drilling jumbos, trucks, shaft boring machines and surface miners. Gaßner and Drebenstedt: New developments in mining technologyAccording to statements by important machine manufacturers there is again evidence of a clear upward trend following the difficulties in 2009. bauma as the leading international exhibition in the branch revealed the change of mood, which is demonstrated by new business contacts and conclusion of many contracts. The main emphasis of the new developments among the exhibited equipment and methods was on innovations for sustainability, i.e. greater cost-effectiveness with high standards of environmental protection, convenience and safety. Gahlen, Albrecht and Pohlmann: Variant for geothermal utilisation of the infrastructure of collieries in North Rhine-WestphaliaWhen considering the utilisation of geothermal energy in the coal mining industry warm mine water and the quantities of thermal energy, which can be raised day by day from the mines and fed into the surface water immediately springs to mind. Under certain conditions, however, the infrastructure collieries, may also favour quite different hitherto hardly ever considered possibilities of geothermal utilisation. One of these possibilities will be explained in more detail here. Frenz: Mining law applied to geothermal boreholesGeothermal boreholes may be covered by mining law. If damage occurs, the principles of liability for mining damage may also take effect. These can be applied at least to the general liability under civil law on the grounds of infringement of traffic safety obligations. Otto and Jakobs: NÖT Bechergasse interlinking section, Cologne, GermanyThe drivage and engineering work for the Bechergasse interlinking section of the north-south urban railway in Cologne, Germany, was successfully completed in a construction time of twelve months. An 83 m long hall was constructed immediately below the foundations of existing houses and business premises. Extensive preliminary work lasting almost five years was required for this purpose. Börkircher: Six Sigma – quality initiativesfor cost reduction and process optimisationSix Sigma occupies an important position in management practice. An increasing number of companies have recognised that this quality approach is not only an effective lever in order to reduce the costs of errors. In addition Six Sigma imparts important momentum to customer satisfaction and commitment, which is likewise reflected in increasing income and turnover. Wodopia: Sustainable coal utilisation for the future energy mix in GermanyThe subject of sustainability of the energy supply has occupied mankind for a long time. Whereas it was primarily a question of continuous profitable utilisation of natural raw materials in the past, social aspects as well as compatibility with the environment and climate have also come into consideration in recent times. As only compatibility with the climate of individual action options attracts most attention in the current discussions and fossil energy sources, in particular lignite and bituminous coal, are sometimes the subject of discrimination, it appears appropriate to refer to the importance of the other aspects and the consequences of an excessively one-sided approach. The contribution is based on a paper given by the author at the Neu-Ulmer Energy Conference on 21st February 2010.
