The WM (Waste Management) 2011 - conference took place from February 27 to March 3 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona (USA).
The annual WM-conference was organized for 37 time. More than 2.000 participants from all-around the world got informed on the state of research and technology with regard to radioactive waste management.
Currently, different options for direct disposal of spent fuel in a repository in salt formations are under investigation in Germany. At the conference, DBE TECHNOLOGY GmbH, which was represented by two employees, and its associate GNS (= Gesellschaft für Nuklear-Service mbH) reported on results of a study on the technical feasibility of the direct disposal of spent fuel in transport and storage casks that are also used for interim storage in salt formations:
