Xstrata Copper announces the publication of its 2010 Sustainability Reports that detail the sustainable development performances of its operations and projects in line with the international best practice reporting standards, the Global Reporting Initiative G3 guidelines.
This year Xstrata Copper is publishing 11 Sustainability Reports, comprising Xstrata Copper’s Canada, North Queensland and Southern Peru reports, the Minera Alumbrera, Lomas Bayas and Altonorte site reports, the El Pachón, Energía Austral, Frieda River and Tampakan project reports and the joint copper-zinc Xstrata Mount Isa Mines report. Xstrata Copper Chief Executive Charlie Sartain commented: “The principles of sustainable development are integral to Xstrata Copper’s business model and guide our daily decision-making. We take a systematic approach to setting targets, monitoring performance and reporting, both internally and externally, against our SD policy, standards and targets.” “Through these reports our stakeholders are able to compare our safety, health, environmental, social and economic performance against our annual targets and to track our performance over time. As such, they play a central role in demonstrating our commitment to maximum transparency in our business, to accurate, honest and timely reporting in accordance with Xstrata’s Business Principles, and to progressing towards the ultimate achievement of our Xstrata Copper strategic objectives.” “Together with Xstrata Copper’s quarterly Sustainability Bulletin, these reports provide a valuable insight into our SD performance and initiatives globally.” The reports are available from Xstrata Copper’s website www.xstratacopper.com. |
