Codelco reported that it has eliminated Codelco Norte, Management Control and Operational Excellence vice-residencies. In addition, Sergio Jarpa has decided to leave the company on 1st December. Diego Hernández, Codelco Presidente & CEO, regretted his departure and thanked him for “his good work in improving Codelco Norte’s production rates.”

Through a material event sent to the Superintendency of Securities and Insurance (SVS), Codelco reported the decision to introduce two new changes to senior management, in order to adapt its structure to new challenges and generate conditions to develop and operate its investment projects.

In this sense, Codelco formed a new mining Division, called Mina Ministro Hales, which shall be in charge of running the mine, currently under construction, located between Chuquicamata and Calama, in the Region of Antofagasta. The new Division General Manager will be Juan Medel, who has more than 30 years experience in the company and until a few days ago was the Vice-president of Shared Services.

Furthermore, two new Vice-Presidencies were created, Operaciones Norte and Operaciones Centro Sur, so as to ensure synergies between the different divisions and operational excellence. “By doing so, we aim to improve the efficiency of our deposits, and plants across the country, simplifying corporate management,” explained Diego Hernández, Codelco President & CEO.

Luis Farías, who is the current Management Control and Operational Excellence Vice-President, will be the new Operaciones Norte Vice-President and will be in charge of Codelco Norte, Mina Ministro Hales and Salvador Divisions. Ricardo Álvarez, who until now was General Manager of El Teniente Division, will be the new Centro Sur Vice-President, which includes Andina, Ventanas and El Teniente Divisions. Both Vice-Presidencies will be representatives of the CEO in everything related to the divisions’ operational management, in accordance with the policies set out by the Board of Directors and the powers granted to the CEO.

Codelco eliminates Two Vice-Presidencies

As of today, Codelco has also eliminated two Vice-Presidencies, Management Control and Operational Excellence, and on 17 September, the Vice-Presidency of Codelco Norte Division.

Sergio Jarpa will leave the Company on 1 December. “Sergio has decided to leave Codelco, a decision I deeply regret. I would like to highlight his remarkable and long career at Codelco, in different stages and different responsibilities, and especially the good work he has has carried out during the last few years, improving production rates at Codelco Norte and overcoming different operational problems,” Diego Hernández stated.

On 17 September, Juan Carlos Avendaño, current manager of Radomiro Tomic Mine, will temporarily takeover as General Manager of Codelco Norte Division. From 17 to 30 September, Sergio Jarpa will be advisor to the CEO and will help to implement the new corporate structure. Furthermore, Octavio Araneda was appointed acting General Manager of El Teniente Division. The above changes will be included in the organisation chart published on Codelco website:www.codelco.com.
