The International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) Commission has awarded Golder an"ISRM Commission on Hard Rock Excavation," with Manoj Verman, lead geotechnical engineer in the Golder Delhi, India, office designated by ISRM as President of the new commission.Â
The ISRM appoints commissions in order to study scientific and technical matters of topical interest to the society. The new commission will run for the next four years. So the commission can get off to a quick start in October 2011 in Beijing during the ISRM Congress, Verman has been asked by ISRM to start preliminary work in advance as a "pre-commission." The product will be a report entitled "Lessons Learned from Hard Rock Excavation Projects"and will include the following: - Case histories of hard rock excavation projects, especially those from the Himalayas, the Alps and the Andes
- Challenges faced during hard rock excavation, particularly in difficult ground conditions, and recommendations for avoiding these problems
The ISRM was founded in 1962 as a non-profit scientific association and currently has 5,000 members and 46 national groups. Rock mechanics encompasses all studies relative to the physical and mechanical behaviour of rocks and rock masses, and the applications of this knowledge toward the better understanding of geological processes and in the engineering field. |
