Newcrest Preparing to Resume Production at Bonikro Mine in Côte d’Ivoire

Following resolution of the Côte d’Ivoire presidential elections and the stabilising political and security situation, Newcrest Mining is taking steps to resume operations at its Bonikro gold mine.
Newcrest has undertaken detailed security assessments and conducted extensive local consultation to ensure the safety of our employees. No security issues were experienced at the mine during the period of civil unrest.
Mine management are progressively returning to the mine site and all employees are undergoing comprehensive reinductions and being provided with a range of support.
Production is expected to re-commence in early June 2011. The production impact has been approximately 8,000 ounces of gold per month.
