The Sishen South project has set an industry-benchmarking safety performance standard by achieving 11 million LTI-free person-hours.Â
For Hatch in South Africa, this sets a new benchmark for safety performance. The Sishen South project is a greenfield iron ore mine situated in the Northern Cape area of South Africa. The mine was recently renamed Kolomela. Kumba has an existing large iron ore mine, Sishen, approximately 80 kilometres north of the new project. For our client, Anglo American, the global company record for safety is 13 million LTI-free hours. The integrated Kumba and Hatch team on site continues the march towards excellence in safety, displaying a commitment to prevent harm to any person on the project. The areas managed by Hatch on the project made a significant contribution to this achievement. The plant and stockyard section is LTI-free to date and has contributed 2,835,952 person-hours, the rail section has contributed 284,584 person-hours, and the housing section (management taken over by Hatch in January 2011) has added 2,078,531 person-hours for a total Hatch-managed contribution of 4,914,483 to the 11 million person-hour record. |
